Maple a L'Orange Cookies
Yield: 2 ½ Dozen Cookies
1½ Stick Unsalted Butter, Room Temperature
1 1/2 Cups Organic Cane Sugar, Divided
½ Cup Vermont Maple Sugar
1 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
1½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
¼ Teaspoon Vanilla Bean Sea Salt
2 Tablespoons Seville Orange Peel
1 Cup Vermont Maple Flakes or Turbinado Sugar
These cookies are great anytime, any place. We often leave a plate of them on the counter and let people pick up a couple as they walk by. For a little ‘fancier’ presentation, we drizzle with orange glaze.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Cream together butter, cane sugar, and maple sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add egg, and extract, and beat together until smooth.
Place flour, baking soda, salt, and orange peel in a medium bowl. Whisk to combine, then slowly add dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Stir to combine.
Shape dough into 1" balls. Roll balls in Maple Flakes or turbinado sugar and place 2” apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 13-15 minutes until done. Let cool slightly, then transfer to a baking rack to cool completely.
